My name is Permpoon. I was born in 2018, and Aom is my mummy. We spend all our time together. She is very protective of me, so I’m not allowed to go and play with the bigger elephants just yet. I hope that one day, when I’m more grown up, I’ll be able to join them—it looks like they have a lot of fun together.
I’m a curious and gentle young elephant. I like to stay close to my mummy, quietly watching everything around me and learning as I grow. I enjoy exploring at my own pace and discovering the world one small step at a time.
Mummy and I used to work at a large elephant camp on Koh Samui. She carried tourists on her back all day in a heavy metal chair, while I had to walk beside her to keep up. She tried her best to keep my spirits high, but walking all day is a very long journey for such little legs.
In March 2019, Maew came with a big truck to rescue us. At first, Mummy was too afraid to climb into the truck because she was worried, she might lose me. She refused to leave my side. In the end, we walked across the island together to reach our new home at the elephant rescue park. When we arrived, the other elephants welcomed us with loud trumpets.
I am very happy to be here, and I think Mummy feels the same. I’m especially glad that she doesn’t have to carry that heavy chair anymore.
Now I’m eight years old, and I’m growing bigger and stronger every day. My house is starting to feel a little small—but that’s okay. I’ve heard they’re going to build me a new one!
